The International Ecotourism Society reports that ecotourism has been growing 20 to 34 percent per year since the 1990s. Eco-tourists enjoy Belize vacations because of the country's natural beauty as well as the promotion of responsible ecotourism by the government and conservation groups. Belize's largest island, Ambergris Caye, is renowned for its spectacular marine eco-system. It boasts thriving underwater gardens and tunnels abundant with a wide range of tropical fish and beautiful coral formations. Belize's national parks provide wonderful destinations for bird-watchers. Many consider Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary to be the best spot in the country. It is the main nesting site of the endangered jabiru stork.
